Are You A Candidate For Breast Reduction Surgery?

Macromastia is the medical term for excessively large breasts, and I have performed hundreds of breast reductions on women who could no longer suffer with the symptoms, which include severe neck pain, shoulder pain, deep shoulder grooves, and painful skin rashes. I continue to see many patients with large painful breasts –- in fact, breast reduction is one of my most requested surgical procedures. I generally use the inferior pedicle technique, called the Wise Pattern. This places an incision around ... Continue Reading

A Great New Way to Smooth Fine Facial Wrinkles — Just In Time for the Holiday Parties!

At a recent plastic surgery conference I saw a new, highly effective technique for smoothing out small, fine wrinkles around the face, and especially around the lips, using a mixture of Juvederm and the numbing agent Lidocaine. Using a very small needle, I fill in the small wrinkles, leaving a fine sheet of product under the skin, which stimulates the collagen to rebuild itself. There is minimal bruising, minimal pain, and it’s done in the office in about 20-30 minutes. ... Continue Reading

VI PEEL: A Highly Effective Alternative to Laser Treatments

Why am I blogging about a peel when I am a surgeon? Because my patients want rejuvenized skin and a great treatment at a reasonable price. I have had great success with a facial treatment called VI PEEL. While lasers usually require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results, one VI PEEL offers excellent results with less discomfort and expense. For most patients, peels are done three to four times a year, but if you have extremely damaged skin, the ... Continue Reading

What Is The Best Incision For A Breast Augmentation?

I am asked all the time, “What is the best incision for a breast augmentation?” I use all the incisions available… armpit, breast, and nipple… but have recently found my patients want a hidden incision under the armpit. This is called the transaxillary incision. Very few surgeons are trained in this technique. I was trained to do this technique by the best. My patients find it advantageous to have a minimal incision in the armpit, and after several weeks it ... Continue Reading

Male Breast Reduction

Medications, genetics, and weight gain all contribute to a condition in men called Gynecomastia, meaning excess male breast tissue. I see many young boys as well as adult men with male breast tissue. This is a common complaint in my practice. The best option for removing the excess tissue is liposculpture with direct excision of the breast tissue. Many surgeons who don’t practice plastic surgery don’t understand the techniques necessary to get the best result. It is necessary to do ... Continue Reading

What Does “Board Certified” Really Mean?

FYI: Just because a doctor is “board certified” it does not necessarily mean they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). In many states, a licensed physician from any medical field can perform cosmetic procedures without being board certified in plastic surgery. When choosing a plastic surgeon, make sure they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which is the only board that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of ... Are You A Mommy Makeover Candidate?

If you’ve had kids, then you have probably noticed changes in your body including saggy breasts, a stretched out tummy, and random excess fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. I can help you regain your pre-pregnancy body with a Mommy Makeover, which is a catch-all phrase for breast and tummy surgery. After a decade of operating in Los Angeles as a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, I feel that I have perfected my techniques. As bathing suit styles ... Continue Reading

What’s the Difference Between a Tummy Tuck and a Panniculectomy?

While both surgeries remove excess skin and fat, a Tummy Tuck includes tightening of the abdominal muscles for aesthetic purposes. You’re a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck if you are in relatively good shape, but your abdominal muscles have stretched out to the point where they are resistant to exercise (common after pregnancy).  Panniculectomy is often the surgery of choice for people who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with an apron of hanging skin ... WATERJET FAT HARVEST

The future is fat! Having just come back from the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons), meeting in Toronto last weekend fat is the rage. Fat grafting to the face and body helps restore your youthful appearance and has changed how I think about facelifting. Yesterday I used the waterjet which is a fantastic new machine to harvest fat more easily and gently and re-inject into a young woman’s hands. Hands are a great area for fat grafting as we ... Breast Revision Surgery

Dr. Cohen….why are my breast hard? One of the main operations that I perform in Beverly Hills at the Lasky Clinic is revision breast surgery.  As we all know, breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular surgeries that we perform. It is not without its inherent risks however. A capsular contracture is scar tissue that builds around an implant and can happen early in the healing process, (3 months), or happen years later.  Many patients come to my ... Continue Reading
