How to Get Rid of Jowls

ModelJowls are characterized by sagging skin and tissue along the jawline, and they develop in most people as they get older. Although incredibly common, jowls tend to be an aesthetic concern for many people, due to creating a more aged facial appearance with reduced chin and jawline definition. For those wanting to tighten and lift jowling in their lower face, there are a number of treatment options available.

Non-surgical solutions may be a sufficient treatment method for those with mild jowling. In some cases laser resurfacing may be recommended to help tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production for a reduced jowling appearance. Dermal filler injections are another non-surgical treatment sometimes used, as they can help fill in the area around the jowls to create less noticeable drooping. Unfortunately, exercises targeting the jowl area aren’t considered an effective treatment, since the muscles aren’t the main cause of the concern.

For more severe jowls, surgery is typically necessary to provide more noticeable improvement. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Cohen, performs facelift and neck lift surgery to address sagging and other signs of aging in the face and neck. Through these treatment options, he can precisely lift the lax skin and underlying tissues to create a more youthful and natural-looking facial appearance.
