FDA Approved EXPAREL Now Available For Extended Pain Relief After Surgery

I am excited to be using a new product designed to provide up to 72 hours of pain relief after surgery called EXPAREL. EXPAREL, which is Bupivacaine, is a local anesthesia which has been around for many years. What’s different is the way the product is delivered to the surgical site. I inject the medication directly into the surgical site while my patient is still asleep in the OR. The medication is packaged into little soap bubbles, allowing extended distribution of the medication over the course of three days, which provides a steady delivery of pain relief.

Clinical studies of EXPAREL have shown a marked improvement in pain management in plastic surgery as well as other surgical procedures. Our tummy tuck and breast augmentation patients have been extremely happy because they need less post-operative narcotics. Less narcotics means less nausea, vomiting, and side-effects. Your post-operative comfort is our main concern and goal.

If you’d like more information about EXPAREL, please call Shelley Hirschman, my Patient Care Coordinator, at (310) 659-8771.
